Intense And Realistic Training For 14 New Nashua Fire Recruits

NASHUA, NH — Nashua Fire Rescue constantly holds training to improve and maintain the skills of the firefighters who serve the Gate City.

For five weeks, a group of 14 new Nashua firefighters trained with experienced firefighters during an intense period of training. New recruits are required to be certified firefighters completing firefighter 1, and 2 certifications as well as being certified basic level EMTs before they join the department. Once they join Nashua Fire Rescue, they train in the classroom, do physical fitness exercises, and receive important hands-on training.

Nashua Fire Rescue has an extensive training facility that has specially designed training tools allowing realistic hands-on training.

In the intense August heat on Wednesday, the recruits rolled into the training ground on engines and ladder trucks thinking they were arriving at alarms in the building. The training division had fires set inside the training building, victims hanging from windows, doorways that were locked, and people trapped inside the building.

Firefighters faced realistic scenarios that they must be ready for, and in, extreme temperatures.

No one will dispute the fact that the fire service is inherently dangerous and, nationwide, is ever-changing. Firefighters face untold hazards every day.

The Nashua Fire Training and Safety Division prepares the new firefighters and trains existing fire professionals. The Training and Safety division's primary role is to ensure that every member has the training and education to face these situations and mitigate them effectively and professionally.

This division is operated by a captain and a lieutenant and is responsible for training, education, maintaining skill levels, maintaining training records and certifications. This division is also tasked with the recruitment and screening of applicants.

Nashua Fire has 176 members in their department who staff 6 engines and 3 ladder trucks. They also maintain a regional hazmat team and regional dive team that serves Nashua and other communities.
