Join The Silver Knights For NAACP Night At Holman Stadium
The NAACP, the Silver Knights and the VT Lake Monsters are celebrating 75 years since the breaking of the color barrier in baseball.
NASHUA, NH — To celebrate 75 years since the breaking of the color barrier in baseball, the Nashua Silver Knights and the Greater Nashua National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host a pre-game banquet and post-game fireworks Friday, July 8.
Jackie Robinson made national headlines in 1947 for becoming the first Black Major League Baseball player, finally breaking the color barrier in the sport. But here in Nashua, Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella made the Nashua Dodgers the country's first integrated affiliated baseball team in 1946.
"I always thanked God for Nashua," Newcombe said, according to MiLB.TV. "We didn't have to go through what Jackie went through there."

The Silver Knights are facing the Vermont Lake Monsters in Friday's game at Holman Stadium, with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. The buffet dinner begins at 4:30 p.m., serving hot dogs, burgers, soft drinks and more. Fireworks will follow the game.
A portion of all single-game tickets will be donated to the Greater Nashua NAACP, and the Lake Monsters team has pledged to match Silver Knights donations by 100%.
