Bleak Outlook for 'Home Grow' Bill

Could medical cannabis ID cards be available this summer? Unlikely, with Senate panel vote.

A Senate committee has voted to recommend "interim study" for a bill to allow patients to have home grow access for cannabis until New Hampshire's medical marijuana law gets operational.

House Bill 1622 was crafted with the intent that qualified patients could receive identification cards this summer, and not have to wait for licensed cannabis dispensary centers to open.

The bill would allow two mature plants per patient, and the authorization would be only until a licensed cannabis dispensary opens within 30 miles of their residence, according to Matt Simon, the New England Political Director for MPP, who is based in Goffstown.

Simon, in an email, said the Senate Health, Education & Human Services committee voted 3 to 1 on April 22 to send the bill to "interim study," which would dash the hopes of individuals looking for more immediate relief from medical cannabis.

The New Hampshire House voted 227-73 last month to pass the bill.
