Multi-Hour StandOff In Nashua Utilizing Two SWAT Teams Ends Peacefully

A shelter-in-place was issued for the Grand Ave area. Police were attempting to arrest a man with a warrant when he refused to come out.

NASHUA, NH — Nashua police blocked off Grand Avenue and area side streets as part of a standoff with a man who had an active warrant, according to police.

Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were sent to the home, and quickly, the incident escalated into a standoff. Police set up a perimeter and additional resources were dispatched to the scene, including the Nashua Police Bearcat.

AMR Ambulance dispatched an ambulance to the area and had it stage away from the scene.

After a short time, a woman and at least one child were removed from the house safely and brought to a safe location.

A man, known to police, refused to come out of the house, and Nashua police activated an upgraded SWAT response. The Bearcat from Nashua police was positioned at the front of the residence, and a SWAT K-9 officer was positioned near the side of the residence. SWAT officers surrounded the house, and a notification was made to the adjacent houses. Police launched a drone that hovered above the house as additional officers arrived.

A shelter-in-place was requested for Ledge Street from First to Eighth, according to a police note on X (Twitter).

Manchester Police SWAT responded to assist at the scene, and the Manchester Bearcat with a long battering ram was placed in the rear of the residence.

As darkness fell, you could hear officers ask the person inside to come out peacefully, but the person did not comply. Several times, you could hear officers fire gas cartridges into the house, many through windows. You could see smoke from the gas rising above the house from a distance as it came out of windows.

After an extended time, officers fired additional rounds of gas into the residence and continued to make announcements over the loudspeaker.

At about 6:20 p.m., a man wearing a red sweatshirt exited through the residence's front door and was taken into custody. Police secured the scene and remained for several hours so that detectives could process the scene.

Sgt. John Cinelli, the public information officer and communications division supervisor for the Nashua Police Department, confirmed police have an active warrant for the man. Cinelli said the person's identity and charges they may face will be released after the investigation.
