Nashua Casino Honored For Dedication To Organ Donation Awareness
New England Donor Services recognized Nashua's Gate City Casino for supporting an employee's family after a tragic loss.
NASHUA, NH — On Monday, New England Donor Services (NEDS) presented Gate City Casino with the Employer Recognition Award, given to employers or workplaces that went above and beyond in support of an employee, or employee’s family, during their organ donation or transplant experience.
Michele Decoteau nominated Gate City Casino for their incredible support during the heartbreaking loss of her son, Daniel Decoteau, who was serving as co-operations manager at the casino at the time of his death. Daniel tragically passed away in an accident, but his final act of generosity, donating his heart to Gary Swain, saved a life.
Every November for the past four years, managers of the casino have organized the "Dan Decoteau Veteran's Day" poker tournament and even named a poker room “Danno’s Room” after Decoteau. In the wake of his passing, the Gate City Casino staff have continued to come together to honor his memory, organizing multiple fundraisers. These events not only raise funds for important causes, but also educate guests about the life-saving impact of organ donation, ensuring Daniel’s legacy of selflessness lives on.
