Nashua Crash Victim Seriously Injured Flown To Boston Hospital
Car hits bridge 0n F.E. Everett Tpk off-ramp and bursts into flames. Police say speed appears to be a factor in their investigation.
NASHUA, NH — Nashua fire, AMR ambulance, and New Hampshire State Police responded to a report of an accident and car fire on the southbound Exit 2 off-ramp of the F.E. Everett Turnpike Monday.
The 2013 Buick Encore appears to have taken Exit 2, struck the bridge abutment under the Everett Turnpike, and caught fire. When firefighters arrived they found a car fully engulfed in flames and one person out of the vehicle on the ground.
AMR Medics immediately requested a trauma alert at Southern NH Medical Center and then requested a medical helicopter to the scene. The helicopter advised it would be 45 minutes to arrive to the scene so the patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The victim was later flown by a Boston MedFlight helicopter to Boston Medical Center, State Police said the victim's injuries are serious and life-threatening.

New Hampshire State Police said the vehicle was operated by Kevin Hanley, 59 of Nashua, who was the only person in the vehicle. State police say it appears Hanley failed to negotiate the curve on the off-ramp and drove head-on directly into a bridge abutment. A passing motorist stopped to pull Hanley from the vehicle just before it became fully engulfed with fire.
The Exit 2 off-ramp leading to the D.W. Highway was closed to all traffic for about 1.5 hours but the exit to Hudson was able to remain open. NH Department of Transportation crews are on the scene assisting with the ramp shutdown and checking for damage to the bridge.
