Nashua police said an officer shot Justin Contreras on Ledge Street last week.

NASHUA, NH — A despondent Nashua man pointed a gun at an officer on Ledge Street last week, forcing the officer to shoot him, police said Tuesday. Justin Contreras, 29, survived the shooting and was arrested and charged with criminal threatening.

Officers were called to Contreras' residence Tuesday for a report he was suicidal, according to Nashua police Captain James Testaverde.

"Officers encountered Justin Contreras who was armed with a firearm," Testaverde said in a statement. "Contreras then threatened one of the Officers by pointing the firearm at the Officer. Contreras was shot by the Officer."
