Nashua Police Shooting Under Investigation
A Nashua police officer shot Justin Contreras on Ledge Street during a welfare check, authorities said.

NASHUA, NH — New Hampshire authorities are continuing to investigate a shooting involving a Nashua police officer this week. Officer James Ciulla shot 29-year-old Justin Contreras Tuesday during a confrontation on Ledge Street, according to New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald. Contreras was seriously injured but survived.
Ciulla and fellow officers Kyle Crosson and Guido Marchionda were dispatched to a Ledge Street residence for a welfare check regarding Contreras when the shooting happened, MacDonald said.
"The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation," MacDonald said in a statement. "It is anticipated that a preliminary report regarding whether Officer Ciulla’s use of force was justified will be released once the investigation is completed."
