Rolfe: Said He Killed Sister Because She Had Cancer

Years of suffering with bi-polar disorder and fear of living alone were factors, defense attorney says.

No decisions were made in court following a competency hearing for Dwane Rolfe on June 24, WMUR reports.

Rolfe, 65, is accused of killing his sister, Judith, on Jan. 19. A psychological evaluation of Rolfe's mental condition submitted to the court determined that Duane Rolfe has suffered for decades with bipolar disorder and was experiencing "a psychotic break" when he killed his sister by striking her with several blows to the head.

WMUR reports that during court testimony it was revealed that Judith Rolfe had skin cancer, requiring her to be hospitalized, and that Duane Rolfe feared she would die and leave him alone

"Rolfe testified he killed his sister because she had cancer," WMUR reported.

Rolfe’s attorneys argued that as a result of his mental condition, he is not competent to aid in his own defense, adding that his condition has stabilized in the past six months due to the routine of prison.
