Rollover Crash On F.E. Everett Tpk Leads To A Second Multi-Car Crash

First responders working on a northbound crash watched as several vehicles crashed on the southbound side on the Nashua and Merrimack line

NASHUA, NH - A SUV rollover accident on the F.E. Everett Turnpike northbound brought Merrimack Fire, Nashua Fire, Nashua and Merrimack police, and New Hampshire State Police to the scene Saturday.

The SUV appears to have struck the guardrail in the left lane, veered to the right, and rolled over several times coming to rest on the vehicle's wheels in the area to the right of the turnpike.

Firefighters and EMS treated a woman and transported her from the scene in an ambulance to a Nashua hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was backed up on the northbound side, and was moving slowly in the southbound lane as responders worked at the scene. Responders heard vehicles braking on the southbound side. Three vehicles collided on the southbound side. A passenger car skidded as it attempted to stop, crashed into the back of another vehicle, and stopped near the left-hand part of the roadway.

Multiple airbags were deployed in the passenger car and although the woman was shaken up she refused medical treatment.

Nashua Fire, Merrimack Fire, and AMR ambulance responded to the southbound incident and transported multiple people from the SUV that had been traveling south. None of the injuries appeared to be serious or life-threatening. A young child in an infant carrier that was secured in the back seat of the SUV was one of the occupants transported.

Southbound and northbound travel was slowed significantly and backed up traffic for several miles in both directions.

It appears the accident in the southbound lanes was initially caused by inattention, and vehicles could not stop before colliding with other vehicles. It is unknown the cause of the northbound accident, both accidents are being investigated by New Hampshire State Police.

Several local tow companies responded to the scene, and the roadway was clear about 1.5 hours after the initial accident that occurred at 11:40 a.m.
