NASHUA, NH — A man detained at the scene of a shooting Saturday night at a country club located in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts has been officially charged with murder.

Hunter Nadeau, of an unknown address, was charged with one felony count of second-degree murder. He is accused of killing Robert Steven DeCasare, 59, of Nashua, with a handgun. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said Sunday morning that there was no known connection between the two men.

During the incident, Nadeau shot and wounded two other adults, according to a report.

Nadeau is expected to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Monday. Like in most murder cases, the attorney general’s office is limiting the release of specific information to protect the integrity of the investigation.

According to witness information gathered at the scene by Patch, radio traffic, and television stations, Nadeau was accused of entering the country club facility and opening fire on people eating at Prime, a steakhouse restaurant at the facility. One witness stated it seemed Nadeau was targeting one specific person at the eatery. Several people were injured in the ensuing chaos and not by gunfire. One man was reportedly shot in the face. Witnesses claimed the shooter yelled, “Free Palestine,” at some point during the incident, with one adding he also said, “The children are safe.” One man also reportedly attacked Nadeau with a chair. A wedding happening at the facility does not appear to be the target of the shooting. Dozens of people were evacuated from the scene, while others were held in lockdown at the facility. Reports of there being two shooters were erroneous. Nadeau was captured on the grounds of the country club not long after the shooting. DeCasare was reportedly having dinner with his wife and daughter — who is slated to get married in a few weeks.

Police and fire and rescue teams from several communities, including Amherst, Hollis-Brookline, Hudson, Manchester, Merrimack, Milford, New Hampshire State Police, and Mass. State Police assisted during the incident.
