Portsmouth School Superintendent Puts in Resignation

He will be taking on the same role at a school district in Maine next school year.

Portsmouth’s School Superintendent, Edward McDonough, announced his resignation Wednesday, Feb. 25 in a letter to his staff.

As of Aug. 31, McDonough will transition to a superintendent position at a Maine school district including the towns of Freeport, Durham and Pownal, according to Seacoast Online. He has been the Superintendent of Schools in Portsmouth for six years.

“It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that I will resign my position as superintendent of schools,” McDonough wrote in his letter. “I have been blessed to work with each of you. I want to thank the entire community, from school board members, administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, community members (and) students for your support over these past six years.”

The school board expects Assistant Superintendent Steve Zadravec to take over for McDonough in August.
