8-Year-Old Boy Hit By Car In Salem Fighting For His Life

The boy was hit Saturday on Main Street. Police said Monday the boy was in "critical, life-threatening condition" in a Boston hospital.

SALEM, NH — An 8-year-old boy who was hit by a vehicle on Saturday night in Salem continued to fight for his life Monday in a Boston hospital, according to the Salem Police Department.

The boy's name was not given, but the Salem PD said the child remained in a "critical, life-threatening condition."

Meanwhile, the Salem PD said its Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (CAR) was actively investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 9:17 p.m. on Saturday on Main Street near Bridge Street.

According to police reports, the Salem PD responded to the area after receiving a report of a boy being struck by a vehicle. An officer then called the Salem Fire Department after the boy was found unresponsive.

The boy was taken via Med Flight to Lawrence General Hospital, though he was later transported to a Boston hospital, according to the Salem PD.

The Salem PD has not released the name of the driver who hit the boy, but said the driver was cooperating with the investigation.

According to police reports, the driver went to police headquarters Saturday to complete paperwork and voluntarily submit to a blood draw used to check for alcohol and drugs.
