Alleged Heroin-Shooting Salem Chase Suspect Indicted

A Rochester man who led Salem police on a high-speed chase last October in a stolen truck he tried to use to strike an officer has been indicted on 11 charges in Rockingham Superior Court, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

Anthony Monbleau, 23, was indicted on three counts of drug possession, three counts of reckless conduct, and one count each of disobeying an officer, resisting arrest, theft and operating with a suspended license in connection to the Oct. 5 pursuit and one count of heroin possession for a separate incident on Sept. 7, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

Monbleau allegedly led police on the chase just after 6 p.m. on Oct. 5, one week after he was charged with driving after revocation/suspension (subsequent offense) and released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail for that charge.

Police have previously said they first made contact with Monbleau when they tried to stop him on Route 28 for a motor vehicle infraction. Police pursued the vehicle and learned it had just been reported stolen from the Heavenly Donuts parking lot. Police then broke off the chase due to the escalating reckless nature.

Monbleau was spotted again a short time later on North Policy Street and was operating the car erratically, allegedly injecting heroin while forcing other vehicles off the road, according to police. One Salem police officer narrowly jumped out of Monbleau's way while trying to set up stop sticks.

The chase resumed on Route 28 northbound and ended in the Heavenly Donuts parking area when several police cruisers surrounded the suspect. Monbleau allegedly attempted to escape by ramming his car into some of the police cruisers, according to police.

Another police cruiser successfully pinned Monbleau's vehicle against a pole. When Monbleau refused to be taken into custody and fought with police, the suspect was tasered, according to police.

One police officer suffered cuts and minor injuries.

Monbleau was held on $250,000 cash bail.
