Volunteers Still Needed for 30th Strawberry Festival

1. TODAY'S FORECAST: Today will hit as high as 68 in Windham, but rain showers are expected to move to town in the early evening. Tonight will see a low of 52 with more rain in the forecast.

2. STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: From the Friends of the Library of Windham website:

Windham's annual Strawberry Festival would not be possible without the time and talents of Windham's citizens.  F.L.O.W. needs volunteers to bake biscuits, cut strawberries, paint kids' faces, make balloon animals, direct traffic (orange vest included!), sell refreshments and much more!  No contribution of your time is too small and we have roles for citizens of all ages.

3. GOLDEN BROOK SCHOOL TEDDY BEAR PICNIC: From the Windham School District website:

Students assigned to the A.M. class are invited to Session #1: 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Students assigned to the P.M. class are invited to Session #2 6:00 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.

Golden Brook School presents the Goodnight Teddy Bear Picnic. This is a special event for incoming 2013 kindergarten students and their parents. Join us on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 for an evening of fun, friendship, and the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful time with your child (we request no siblings please). Parents and children are invited to participate in crafts, music, and movement activities that promote early literacy development.

Children are invited to bring a favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal.

3. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On May 8, 1984, claiming that its athletes will not be safe from protests and possible physical attacks, the Soviet Union announces that it will not compete in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Despite the Soviet statement, it was obvious that the boycott was a response to the decision of the United States to boycott the 1980 games that were held in Moscow.
