Windham Teen Arrested on Two Counts of Rape

The arrest took place on May 6.

A Windham teenager was arrested early last week on two counts of rape, according to Windham Police.

Matthew J. Hand, 19, of 20 London Bridge Road in Windham was charged May 6 with felonious sexual assault – forcible rape and aggravated felonious sexual assault – forcible rape. He was arraigned on May 7 and bail was set at $10,000 cash.

Police are not releasing any details on the victim, which is standard procedure in rape cases.

A warrant was issued for Hand's arrest after Windham Police were contacted by the victim, according to Caron. Hand turned himself in to the station shortly after and was cooperative during the arrest.

Hand has a criminal history in Windham starting in 2012.

Caron said he was arrested at Windham High School in June 2012 on a criminal threatening charge. The arrest came after Hand threatened another student.

In January 2013, Hand was charged with disorderly conduct at the school following an argument with one of the administrators where he was swearing in public.

Caron said that Hand is not in school at this time.

Hand will next appear at Salem District Court on May 15 for a probable cause hearing at 10 a.m. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections.
