These 3 NJ Landmarks Named Must-See Destinations: Survey
Travel website Barefoot Yachts recently surveyed travelers to uncover which offbeat American landmarks were worth the visit.
NEW JERSEY — While New Jersey is packed with iconic destinations, a recent survey included three "lesser-known" landmarks in the Garden State that top the must-see lists of global travelers.
Travel website Barefoot Yachts recently surveyed 3,000 international travelers to uncover which offbeat American landmarks were worth the visit. The final list includes 120 destinations across the country.
"From colossal roadside attractions to bizarre historical sites, these alternative destinations offer a fresh perspective on the U.S. beyond the typical tourist trails," according to the survey.

These three New Jersey spots made the list:
- Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville (No. 58)
- Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton (No. 65)
- Lucy the Elephant in Margate City (No. 102)
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's website, the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge offers visitors a chance to unwind from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with their natural surroundings.

The refuge includes several scenic trails that pass through coastal wetlands, freshwater ponds, early successional fields and woodlands. The refuge also features boat launches and the Wildlife Drive, an 8-mile auto tour with excellent birding.
Located in Hamilton, the Grounds for Sculpture is a year-round, 42-acre sculpture park, museum, and arboretum founded on the site of the former New Jersey State Fairgrounds.
Finally, Lucy the Elephant is considered the oldest "roadside" attraction in America. Today, she stands as one the most popular non-gaming attractions in the greater Atlantic City region. While its free to visit Lucy and the nearby gift shops, guided tours are available for a small fee.
These are the top 10 lesser-known U.S. destinations to visit, according to the survey:
- The Seven Magic Mountains in Las Vegas, Nevada
- Pyramid Lake, located northeast of Reno, Nevada
- The International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico
- The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora, North Dakota
- Little Wild Horse Canyon, near Goblin Valley State Park, Utah
- The Old Slave Mart Museum in Charleston, South Carolina
- The Dunes, located in Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana
- The Detroit Historical Museum in Detroit, Michigan
- The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, Washington
- Carlsbad Caverns National Park in Carlsbad, New Mexico
