Head Coach Role To Be Discussed By Asbury Park School Board
Following the suspension of head coach Nick Famularo, the school board is set to discuss the role at a Thursday meeting.
ASBURY PARK, NJ - Following the suspension of Asbury Park High School head football coach Nick Famularo after he was found half-naked and trespassing near the high school locker room with a woman last week, the school board is set to discuss the future of the role at a Thursday meeting.
Per the latest Asbury Park Board of Education agenda for Nov. 18, an agenda item is set to instate Robert Ward as Acting Head Football Coach effective Nov. 8 through Dec. 15. The board will also discuss the removal of assistant head coach Matt Ardizzone as head high school wrestling coach, with Alexander Provenza poised to start Nov. 26 as acting head coach.
The Asbury Park Press initially reported that Matt Ardizzone as well as Lamar Davenport and the district's athletic director Mark Gerbino have been suspended as of Nov. 8.

However, not everyone in the district appears to be happy with the role changes.
“Two coaches and the [athletic director] should NOT be suspended,” Asbury Park Education Association President John Napolitani told Patch. “It’s a witch-hunt against Coach Ardizzone and Mark Gerbino.”

Local authorities were called to the high school stadium on Nov. 6 around 2 a.m. for a report of a trespasser near the gate leading to the school sports stadium.
Famularo, 26, was sitting by the main door leading to the locker room, "holding what appeared to be a jersey covering the lower part of his body," according to the report filed by Asbury Park police and obtained by Patch.
Famularo’s girlfriend arrived on the scene and later transported the head coach home, police said, hours before he coached the Asbury team in a playoff game against Penns Grove.
Another unlocked the locker room for further investigation later that day, yielding the discovery of "human feces on one of the rugs" and "vomit on ... the football jerseys, along with what appeared to be his pants and sneakers."
Famularo was not arrested in connection with the trespassing incident, but was placed in a police car "due to him not having any pants on."
Asbury Park Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Casey confirmed to Patch that there are currently no charges associated with the incident. He did not confirm whether the case involved drugs or alcohol.
"Famularo's behavior appeared altered," Casey previously told Patch. "It is unknown what this was due to."
