2 Young Boys Celebrated For 'Selfless Rescue' Of Dog In Beach Haven West
Stafford Township Council honored Thomas and Nicholas Murphy, who searched for and rescued a family dog in distress under a dock.

BEACH HAVEN WEST, NJ — A daring and selfless rescue of a family dog resulted in two young boys being honored by Stafford Township Council at their latest meeting.
Thomas and Nicholas Murphy were presented with a proclamation by Mayor Bob Henken for their "courage and compassion" in the July 4 search and rescue for the beloved dog, Charlie.
"Two young boys, Thomas and Nicholas Murphy, demonstrated remarkable bravery, empathy and initiative by taking it upon themselves to search for the missing dog," Henken said.

The young duo ventured out in the waters of Beach Haven West in a small inflatable boat to help search for the dog, who was discovered in distress under a dock in the lagoon. Charlie had been there for more than eight hours, Henken said.
With the help of Thomas's father, the boys rescued the dog from the life-threatening situation.

In the rescue, the Murphys displayed courage "far beyond their years," Henken said.
They "serve as a shining example of the power of compassion," he said.
