Aggravated Assault Suspect Caught In Manahawkin

Christopher Therien, wanted for stabbing a healthcare worker by Toms River police, was caught Thursday in Manahawkin, police said.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A man wanted by Toms River police for stabbing a healthcare worker was caught by Stafford police Thursday, authorities said.

Christopher Therien, 33, was spotted by an off-duty Lacey cop shortly before 3 p.m. at 25 Route 9 South in Manahawkin, Stafford police said in a news release.

On scene, officers were able to confirm Therien was the suspect being sought through his tattoos, though he gave false information, police said. As the officers tried to place Therien under arrest, he fled on foot, police said.

Therien was quickly caught and though he tried to resist arrest, he was ultimately taken into custody, police said.

A search resulted in the recovery of two firearms, ammo and a knife, police said.

Therien was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment of injuries received during the arrest and then taken to Ocean County Jail.

He was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice, unlawful possession of firearms, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
