Barnegat Man Vows To Run Against MacArthur In 2018

Martin Weber says he already has enough signatures to run in the primary.

BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP, NJ - The death of his best friend and veteran last month is the impetus behind Martin Weber's plan to run for Congressman Tom MacArthur's 3rd district seat, according to a report in The Sandpaper.

Weber says he already has the required 200 signatures to file for the June primary and hopes to have 2,000. He will formally announce his campaign in January.

“I’m going to beat him,” said Weber, 53. "I'm very confident of that."

Weber's best friend and business partner Jeff Poissant died on Nov. 5 at 56 of bladder cancer.

“The veterans are not getting the care they deserve,” said Weber, who is a former captain of the Barnegat Township Volunteer First Aid Squad captain. “The congressman is supposed to be the first person you contact when you need assistance from the VA (Veterans Administration), but we hardly got any help at all. On the day Jeff died, the VA called to confirm an appointment for him for Dec. 22.”

Weber said a dying Poissant told him to run because he wanted him to beat MacArthur.

“I think if Jeff had gotten better care through the VA, he might still be with us today," Weber said. "There is so much red tape and I want to change this for all those soldiers who proudly served us today. This will be the main point of my platform.”
