Barnegat Parents Bash Decision To Start School On Time

Some say a delayed opening was needed since many sidewalks and bus stops still not cleared of snow.

BARNEGAT, NJ - Some parents here are blasting the decision not to start schools later today, since some children had to walk to school on icy streets on sidewalks that have not been shoveled Monday morning.

"Where I live there is literally no bus stop," one parent wrote on the Barnegat Pride Facebook page. "The children will have to wait for the bus standing in the street. I'll probably drive them in so that I don't have to worry about it."

Barnegat police are out today to monitor traffic along walking routes and assist when needed, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

"I know there's a lot of concern about our kids walking and driving to school in the morning," the post states. "The PD spent today identifying crossing posts that are a concern and need to be cleared."

Police will coordinate with the public works and code enforcement departments to note any uncleared sidewalks along walking routes, according to the post.
