Beloved Stafford Police K-9 Ollie Dies

Ollie's career started in 2011 with his handler Sgt. Chris Smith and retired in 2021 to spend the rest of his days with the Smith family.

STAFFORD, NJ — A beloved member of the Stafford Township Police Department has died - K-9 Ollie.

"It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved K-9 Ollie, who crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday after a remarkable life of service, loyalty, and love," Stafford police shared Wednesday.

Ollie's career started in 2011 alongside handler Sgt. Chris Smith and assisted in hundreds of investigations over the next decade, including "tracking missing Alzheimer’s patients, apprehending fleeing suspects, detecting narcotics and firearms, and even assisting with high-risk SWAT operations," police said.

"Ollie’s outstanding service earned him countless awards and accolades over the years," police said. "His hard work, bravery, and precision were unmatched, and his impact on the department and our community was immeasurable."

But more than police, Ollie was a community icon - a regular at school events and township celebrations, bringing smiles with his friendly demeanor.

"He wasn’t just a working dog — he was family," police said.

Upon his retirement in 2021, Ollie enjoyed the rest of his years as a family pet in the Smith household.

"He spent his days surrounded by love, comfort, and the people who meant the most to him," police said. "Thank you, Ollie, for your loyalty, your courage, and your heart. You served with honor and left paw prints on all of our hearts."
