Burlington County Youth Killed In ATV Accident In Southampton Township

Teen Was Ejected From ATV After He Struck A Closed Gate At A Local Quarry, Report Says

A Burlington County teenager died Sunday night when his ATV struck a closed metal gate at the entrance to a local quarry on Burrs Mill Road in Southampton Township, according to a report in the Pine Barrens Tribune.

The accident happened at 8:13 p.m. at the entrance to Ward Sand & Materials Company. The youth was driving his 2003 Honda ATV northbound on Burrs Mill when for "an unknown reason" his vehicle struck the gate, New Jersey State Police said.

The ATV hit the gate at the quarry driveway and the boy was ejected from the vehicle.

The teen was airlifted to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead several hours later, according to the report.

The roadway was closed from Route 70 to the quarry gate for about two hours. The boy's name has not yet been released.
