Counterfeit Bills Used, $9K Stolen In Separate Incidents In Manahawkin: Police

A New York man tried to pay for two PlayStations with counterfeit bills, police said. In another incident, two stole thousands from shops.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A New York man tried to purchase two PlayStation gaming consoles using counterfeit money in Manahawkin and two people stole more than $9,000 worth of merchandise from two Manahawkin stores in separate incidents, Stafford police said.

Nepaul Campbell, 29, of Mt. Vernon, NY, tried to use 21 fake $50 bills to buy the consoles at the Manahawkin Walmart on Feb. 20, police said.

Campbell was charged with forgery. He was released with a summons pending a court appearance, police said.

In another release, police said that on Feb. 13, Malik Aston, 30, was charged with shoplifting after stealing about $6,565 worth of merchandise from Dicks Sporting Goods located at 223 Stafford Park Blvd.

The East Orange resident was charged with another count of shoplifting for stealing about $2,886 worth of merchandise from Home Depot located at 197 Route 72 in Manahawkin, police said.

A second suspect, 34-year-old Lance Ogunwale, was arrested in Somerset County on Feb. 24 after a warrant was issued for his arrest as an accomplice in the Home Depot shoplifting incident, police said.

Ogunwale, also a resident of East Orange, was jailed pending an appearance in Ocean County Superior Court, police said.
