Human Trafficking Arrests Made At Jersey Shore Motel: Police

2 NY men were arrested at a Jersey Shore motel on Saturday following a tip to police regarding possible human trafficking, authorities said.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - A pair of men from New York were arrested at a Jersey Shore motel on Saturday following a tip to police regarding possible human trafficking, authorities said.

Colin Sherwood, 44, of New York, NY, and Jamy Mathis, 44, of Brooklyn, NY, were charged with human trafficking and promoting prostitution. Both were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Atlantic City police officers Corey Treadway and Tahsin Hossain responded to a motel in the 3000 block of Pacific Avenue for a report of human trafficking following a tip from an individual who believed a woman was being forced into prostitution, police said.

After speaking with the victim, the other occupants in the room at the time - Sherwood and Mathis - were arrested, police said.

An initial investigation found text messages between Sherwood and Mathis that pointed to their involvement in prostitution, police said, adding that the victim was assaulted and threatened with physical harm if she refused to participate.
