"This is a seriously dangerous, potentially life threatening activity," a post states on the patrol's Facebook page. "There have been numerous incidents of sand hole / sand tunnel collapses...where the results are catastrophic."

The post was accompanied by a photo of a young man standing in the middle of a deep hole, snapped by the while he was on patrol. When he was told to fill it in, the hole started to collapse, according to the post.

"Once more, we're appealing to our followers to be our eyes and ears," the post states. "If you see this occurring, please report it to a lifeguard or beach patrol officer. Doing so can save a life."

Almost two years ago to the day a 12-year-old boy had to be resuscitated after a hole collapsed on him on a Surf City beach in August of 2015.

Lifeguards and beach goers pulled the boy out the the sand when it collapsed. Initially he was not breathing, but began breathing after he was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he said.

The boy was airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he fortunately recovered.
