The Academy is limited to 25 students, and all applicants should be in good standing with their respective schools. Those who have had previous disciplinary problems at school or adverse interactions with the police may be disqualified - the program is intended to introduce students to a law enforcement career and is not meant for troubled youth, police said.

"The Junior Police Academy resembles the actual police academy with physical training and formation drills daily followed by instruction and demonstrations about the department's history, criminal investigations, gangs, SWAT, motor vehicle stops, defensive tactics and more," the application letter says.
