Lacey Woman Charged With DWI After Head-On Crash In Barnegat

A woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after Barnegat police found an open alcohol container in her car at the scene of a crash.

BARNEGAT, NJ — A woman was charged with driving while intoxicated on Saturday after police found an open container of alcohol in her car at the scene of a crash in Barnegat.

Police responded to a report of a head-on crash between two cars at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Schooner Avenue and Village Drive East, according to Captain Jason Carroll.

A 40-year-old Lacey woman driving a 2009 Mitsubishi, who was not injured in the crash, was subsequently arrested at the crash site.

The woman received summonses for driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples, open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, unregistered vehicle, reckless driving and failure to yield in an intersection, Carroll said.

A 70-year-old Barnegat woman who was traveling in a 2016 Volkswagen suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. She was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment.
