Man Stole Credit Card From Unlocked Car: Stafford Police

A Whiting man has been charged with theft after he stole and used a credit card from an unlocked car, Stafford police announced Thursday.

STAFFORD, NJ — A Whiting man has been charged with theft after he stole and used a credit card from an unlocked car, Stafford police announced Thursday.

On Aug. 9, Patrolman Zachary Halliday responded to a home on Beach Haven West Boulevard for a report of burglary and theft of items from an unlocked motor vehicle.

An investigation by Patrolman Halliday and Detective Smithman determined that the suspect had utilized a stolen credit card taken from the vehicle, police said.

Video surveillance was obtained and the suspect’s identity was confirmed as Edward Meinwieser, 38, of Whiting.

On Aug. 10, Meinwieser was arrested by Patrolman Halliday and Patrolman Caporrino on a warrant issued by Stafford Township Municipal Court.

Meinwieser has been charged with theft, theft of a credit card, burglary and unauthorized use of a credit card. He was subsequently lodged in Ocean County Jail.

Stafford police have been urging residents to lock their vehicles in recent weeks amid a spike in motor vehicle thefts.

The police department has suggested that residents establish a "9 p.m. routine," which involves locking doors, windows and vehicles, removing any valuables and turning on exterior lights.
