National Bagel Day: These Are Barnegat's Best, Patch Readers Say

BARNEGAT-MANAHAWKIN, NJ — It's time to chow down on one of New Jersey's culinary delights: the bagel.

Whether you prefer a pork roll, egg and cheese or a simple cream cheese spread, there's no denying that these delicious baked goods are super popular, and everyone has their own opinion on which is the best.

Patch asked its readers where they find the best bagels in Barnegat and Manahawkin. The results? Many sang praises of Bagels and Beyond, at both the Manahawkin and Beach Haven West locations.

One reader said his go-to order was an everything bagel with cream cheese on both sides, with sliced lox and sliced onion. He said he was introduced to it in the sixties and that it "always represented the ultimate in decadence."

Another Bagels and Beyond fan said what she loved was how her everything bagel was always freshly-baked and warm when she arrived at 6:45 a.m.

"As an elderly Jewish man explained to me 60 years ago (in an unforgetable Yiddish accent )'a good bagel will be stale by the end of the day,'" she shared with Patch. "Bagels and Beyond makes a good bagel."

Yet another reader agreed that the bagels were always super fresh, and noted that the servers were always kind and courteous, even when the place was packed on a Monday morning.

Other readers recommended Danny's Bayshore Bagels in Barnegat, because (according to one reader) not only are the bagels the best, their crumb cake is second only to the famous B&W Bakery in Hackensack.
