BARNEGAT, NJ — A new ice cream shop opened in Barnegat last week just in time to serve sweet treats for National Ice Cream Day on Sunday.
Barnegat Bay Ice Cream offers an array of treats to choose from, including hand dipped ice cream, soft serve, water ice, gelati and hurricanes, the equivalent to Dairy Queen’s Blizzard.
“There wasn’t any really around of that nature with the patio outside,” said owner Roger Aquilino, of Barnegat. “Families sit out there and talk with one another. It’s a little place to go.”

Aquilino opened the store with his son, Roger Jr. on Wednesday, July 14.
He believed that an ice cream shop was something Barnegat needed and would be a treat for the community that he calls home.

“People eat dinner at home but they can’t afford to take kids out to a restaurant with dinner and everything else. It’s the cost of a small fortune,” he said. “But a few dollars will take them for ice cream. The kids get all excited. Their eyes light up because of all the different toppings. That’s what makes me happy.”
Barnegat Bay Ice Cream is open daily from noon to 10 p.m. at 515 N. Main St.
