BARNEGAT, NJ — At the latest Barnegat Township Committee meeting, Mayor Pasquale "Pat" Pipi promised some "really good news" to residents: a new Super Wawa is coming to town.

Pipi said that the administration has heard many complaints about the congestion getting in and out of the Wawa on West Bay Avenue.

"Well, your frustration will soon be over," he said.

There are still hoops to navigate, he said, but "we are well on our way to getting a new Super Wawa in Barnegat."

It will be located on Route 9 and Barnegat Boulevard, Pipi said.

An existing Wawa is there as part of Pebble Beach Plaza, but a Super Wawa would be freestanding and offer a gas station as well.

Requirements like traffic counts have been completed already, according to Pipi.

"This Wawa will not only relieve traffic congestion for those who live on the west, it will also give easy access to gas for those who live on the east side of the Parkway," he said.

It will also boost Barnegat's tax base, he said.
