Ocean Township Junior Police Academy Slots Filling Up Fast

The program will run from July 9 through July 13, deadline for applications is March 20

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Ocean Township police department is accepting applications for its popular Junior Police Academy coming up in July.

The deadline to apply for the program is March 20. The Academy will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from July 9 to July 13, according to the police department's Facebook page.

"The Junior Police Academy is not a “boot camp” for troubled youth, but a camp designed to operate like an actual police academy," according to the post. "You do not have to want to be a police officer to enjoy this camp."

Interested candidates must be a current fifth or sixth-grader and live in Ocean Township.

"Due to the overwhelming response the last several years and the increase in attendance we will be limiting enrollment to 50 recruits," the post states. "Please do not wait to turn in your application. Acceptance will be on a first-come, first-serve basis."

Applications are available at the police department lobby and must be returned no later than March 20. The cost of the academy is $75. A check or money order is due at the time the application is returned.

The program will focus on police procedures, the history of law enforcement police K-9, Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.), traffic safety, haz-mat, emergency management, motorcycle patrol, bicycle patrol and criminal investigations. There will also be some physical training.
