Pinelands Regional High School Will Be Closed All Of Next Year

The bad news from the troubled high school just keeps on coming

LITTLE E HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ - Pinelands Regional High School, still reeling from construction problems since last September, will close for the entire 2018-2019 school year, according to a report in The Sandpaper.

School officials announced the decision at the Board of Education's workshop session on Monday. The school's brick facing must be removed and replaced.

It was the latest blow for the district, which has had high school students on split session since last October, when multiple problems - dust, dirt, bad odors and asbestos threats - related to roof construction at the high school were discovered. The high school students were put on split sessions at the Middle School.

At a board meeting in January, the referendum projects’ architect Brooks Garrison and then-construction manager Chuck Romanoli said working on the project while students were in the high school building was a "giant liability."

The board authorized district Administrator Stephen Brennan to enter into a lease with MobileLease Modular Space Inc. for a 10-classroom mobile unit. The district is also considering sending some of the students to classrooms in the district's Frog Pond Elementary School. Others may go to class in temporary classroom units, more commonly known as TCUs., the report states.
