Powerful Nor'easters Uncover Whale Skeleton In Brigantine
The humpback whale washed ashore almost 10 years ago and was buried by the town.
BRIGANTINE, NJ –The pair of recent violent Nor'easters have uncovered the skeleton of a humpback whale that washed up on the beach almost a decade ao.
Brigantine resident Eric Matuzsan spotted the skeleton while driving on the beach on Thursday. He can remember when the 20-foot whale washed up on the beach years ago. The whale was later buried by Brigantine, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
The storm tides ate away at about a foot of sand on the beach and uncovered the skeleton, Matuzsan said.

The whale bones are about 20 yards from the water.
Erosion from winter storms exposes the skeleton almost every year, said Robert Schoelkopf, the founder and executive director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
