Some Trails In Wharton State Forest, Batsto Village Will Remain Closed Weeks After Forest Fire
State is still assessing damage from underground root fires and hazardous trees and limbs.
There are some areas in Wharton State Forest and Batsto Village that will stay closed due to underground root fires and hazardous trees and limbs, weeks after the forest fire, according to the New Jersey State Parks, Forests and Historic Sites Facebook page.
The trails could be closed for several weeks, until damage from the fire can be assessed.
"Please understand the potential hazards of re-igniting a fire, along with personal safety," the post states. "There are great hiking opportunities to hike and explore other areas of Wharton State Forest including regenerating areas from past fires."
