MANAHAWKIN, NJ — An extensive renovation to Southern Regional Middle School’s front entrance is now complete, officials said Monday.

Upgrades to the school’s main entrance were finalized in early December in celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary this year. For its golden anniversary, extensive renovations to the front of the building took shape over the summer and fall.

On Dec. 1, students were the first to walk through the newly updated main entrance. The building now features a new lighted sign, an extended awning and vestibule.

A permanent display honoring the 50th anniversary is also being assembled, school officials said.

“When the original bleachers and lockers were updated over the past several years, sections from each were kept to include in the planned display,” officials said in a news release. “To date, a set of original hallway locker doors has been framed with wood from the original bleachers.”
