Stafford's McKinley Avenue School Reopened After Mold Concerns

Superintendent will hold a parent's meeting to address district mold concerns on Sept. 19

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ - The McKinley Avenue Elementary School has been reopened after mold was discovered in several areas back in August.

The school reopened on Sept. 10, after it was deemed safe, with one limited area that still needs work, Superintendent George J. Chidiac said in a post on the district's website.

"Please be assured that our staff and students health and well-being are of the utmost importance to the district," he said.

The district hired Coastal Environmental Compliance - an industrial hygienist firm back in August - as soon as the mold was found in two areas of the school.

The firm will continue to do visual and if necessary, take samples in all of the district's other schools, which include the Intermediate School, the Ronald L. Meinders Elementary School, the Oxycocus School and the Ocean Acres School, Chidiac said.

He will hold a special meeting for parents to discuss the mold issue at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Stafford Township Arts Center.

He urged parents not to pay attention to social media.

"Parents, get the facts from the superintendent, not social media," the website states.
