The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce will focus on starting your own business at its Sept. 12 meeting.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ - Thinking about starting your own family business and being your own boss?
Making it succeed on a daily basis is not easy. The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce will focus on how to do that at its Sept. 12 meeting in Manahawkin.
The chamber's popular "Innovate and Caffeinate" format will feature local businesses sharing advice on how to start your own business. Representatives from the Small Business Administration will also be on hand To discuss new lending programs.

The panel will include Charlie and Chelsea Kulp of Shore Brake Cyclery, a full service bicycle repair, sales and rental shop located in Brant Beach and Jennifer and Ted Saropoulos of Lefty's Tavern and Restaurant in Barnegat.
Topics will include deciding to open a business, balancing the responsibilities of home and work, the importance of role clarity, and extending personalities into the culture of the business. Stockton University's Professor John Boyle will lead the discussion.

Boyle has a master's degree in business administration, is a certified public accountant and teaches accounting and taxation. He also has years of experience serving family businesses in the private sector.
The cost is to attend the event at the Mainland/Holiday Inn at 11 Route 72 East in Manahawkin is $25 with RSVP or $30 at the door. The program starts at 8:15 a.m. Advance registration is encouraged. The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce partnered with Stockton University when it launched its Founded in Family Program in 2017 as part of its Vision 2020 strategic plan.
"This is the first business program in the state created to enhance the family business dynamic," said chamber CEO Lori Pepenella. "The goal of the program was to allow family businesses to advance in planning stages, encourage new business and provide a platform for family legacies to be shared."
The Founded in Family program also offers workshops and feature articles sharing local family business stories.
