Tuckerton Seaport Presents 'The Legend of the Jersey Devil'
The free event will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 pm. on March 24

TUCKERTON, NJ - The Tuckerton Seaport will present "The Legend of the Jersey Devil" - a story near and dear to the hearts of many South Jersey Pineys - on March 24.
The free program gets underway at 1 p.m. and will run until 2:30 p.m.
Although the legend is treated as a tale these days, South Jersey residents considered it as a true and frightening story in the past.

Dr. Angus Kress Gillespie, a professor of American Studies and Urban Studies at Rutgers University, will discuss how past accounts were reported and the folklore that developed around the legend.
In 1735, Mother Leeds was ready to deliver he thirteenth child. She was exhausted and feeling burdened. She cursed the unborn child after she gave birth at a home in the Pine Barrens. The rest is history.
