Two Motorcyclists Badly Injured In Crash Across From Elementary School In Stafford

A West Creek man was airlifted to Atlantic City Medical Center recently after he was involved in an accident that also injured another motorcyclist, Lt. James R. Vaughn said.

The accident happened at 8:50 p.m. on May 17. Joseph Zargo, 20, Monroe Township, was heading north on Route 9 in a pickup truck near the school when he tried to make a left hand turn into the school parking lot. His truck collided with two motorcycles traveling south on Route 9, Vaughn said.

One of the motorcycles was driven by Ryan Johnson, 23, Manahawkin, the other by Anthony Coon, 27, West Creek.

Coon suffered significant internal injuries and was flown to the Atlantic City Trauma Center by Penn STAR 2. Johnson also suffered internal injuries and was transported to the Southern Ocean Medical Center. Zargo was uninjured, Vaughn said.

Traffic on Route 9 was stopped and had to be rerouted for two hours, Vaughn said.

Both motorcycles had to be towed from the scene, he said.

Zargo received a summons for careless driving, but the accident is still under investigation by Patrolman Jillson of the Stafford Township Police Department.
