Waretown Plans To Allow Recreational Marijuana
Waretown is the third town in Ocean County to approve recreational marijuana, following Lakehurst and South Toms River.
WARETOWN, NJ — Waretown is planning to allow recreational marijuana in town, according to ordinances introduced at a recent Township Committee meeting.
An ordinance was introduced at the recent meeting to repeal and replace Chapter 125 of the Township Code, which prohibited cannabis businesses within the township. It will be amended and titled "Cannabis Businesses" to permit certain classes of cannabis licenses.
A second ordinance was introduced to amend the township zoning map and establish cannabis use overlay zones.

Cannabis cultivators, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors will be permitted within the two zones being established. Retail sales will not be allowed.
Regulations and requirements were also established for businesses.

The ordinances will be available for a public hearing at the next meeting on May 17.
Correction: An earlier version of this story said that recreational marijuana sales would be allowed in town. Only cultivators, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors will be allowed.
