ACEing Autism Wraps Up Sold-Out First Season in Basking Ridge
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The first season of ACEing Autism in Basking Ridge wrapped up this fall after a sold-out launch that brought together children, families, and more than 30 volunteers from across the area. The tennis program, designed to make the sport accessible for children on the autism spectrum, quickly became a community favorite — filling all available spots in its debut session.
The five-week program provided weekly clinics for children age 5- 18 and paired participants with trained volunteers who guided them through fun, structured tennis activities that build confidence, coordination, and connection.

“The enthusiasm from both families and volunteers has been amazing,” said Amina Rachidi, a Ridge High School junior who brought the national program to Basking Ridge. “It’s been incredible to watch kids learn and laugh on the court every week.”

A Local Student’s Vision Brings National Program to Town
Amina’s love for tennis inspired her to find ways to open the game to children of all abilities. A member of the Ridge High School girls’ tennis team, she first volunteered with ACEing Autism outside the area and quickly saw the program’s impact firsthand. Recognizing a need closer to home, she reached out to the national organization to discuss starting a local chapter and organized the program’s first Basking Ridge session in September.
The result was a remarkable turnout: more than 30 volunteers — including high school students from Basing Ridge, Bridgewater, and Warren — stepped up to assist. Families praised the inclusive, positive environment, and many expressed excitement for future sessions.

Community Effort, Shared Success
While Amina played a key role in bringing the program to life, she’s quick to credit the broader community for its success.
“This program has shown what can happen when people come together for a shared purpose,” she said. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers, families, and local organizations like Somerset County Parks and Recreation and Bernards Township Parents of Exceptional Children, who supported it from the start.”
Looking Ahead
The Basking Ridge ACEing Autism program is set to return in spring 2026, with plans to expand participation and volunteer opportunities.
“ACEing Autism is about more than tennis,” Amina said. “It’s about creating moments of joy and inclusion. I’m so proud to see that happening here in our community.”
