Baby Formula Reported Shoplifted from Stop & Shop

Bernards Township police reportedly are working on at least one lead in two cases of alleged shoplifters who on three occasions reportedly made off with hundreds of dollars worth of cans of baby formula taken from Stop & Shop supermarket.

In the most recent incident, on Sept. 27, a woman whom the store employees believed had taken more than $500 worth of Similac in June was see back in the store, loading her car with baby formula, according to the police report.

Police were called, but the woman apparently had left the store at the Lyons Mall before they arrived. The full shopping cart was left behind, according to police.

However, police said some identifying informaton was collected, and the matter is under investigation.

However, police said they have no suspects in a similar case of suspected shoplifting on Sept. 12 and again on Sept. 25 at the same store. In that instance, 10 cans of Similac were reportedly taken on the first day, and 20 were taken on the second date, for a total of more than $460 worth of baby formula, according to the police report.

The incident was reported on Sept. 26, police said. Police said the store employees said that two men were seen on video camera whom they believe had taken the Similac, one older and heavyset with a chin style beard, and another with a moustache, wearing a hat.
