Residents Escape House Fire At Basking Ridge Home

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A house fire that began in the garage ignited on Sunday night in Bernards Township.

At around 9:20 p.m., a fire was reported at a home on Galloping Hill Road in the Liberty Corner section of the Township.

Residents were home at the time but evacuated when they heard their fire alarm and saw the fire, said Liberty Corner Fire Chief Ken White.

The fire extended to the second-floor bedroom and was brought under control within 45 minutes, said White.

"Crews operated on scene for approximately 2 hours and assisted in opening up walls and ceilings to expose concealed fire, according to Bernardsville Fire Co. No. 1 & First Aid Squad.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire was being investigated by the Bernards Township Fire official, but it appeared to be accidental.

The family was unable to stay in the home because utilities were secured, said White.

The Liberty Corner Fire company was assisted by crews from Lyons VA Fire, Basking Ridge Fire and EMS, Bernardsville Fire, Far Hill - Bedminster Fire, Warren Fire, Atlantic EMS and Somerset County Fire coordinators.

Liberty Corner Fire Company is comprised of more than 65 volunteers and responsible for providing fire and rescue service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township. In fact, they have been providing free volunteer fire and rescue service to the Liberty Corner community since 1910.
