Basking Ridge Drama Teacher Cast In Upcoming Production Of 'Our Town'

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Lauren Lipman, a drama teacher from a school in Basking Ridge, will appear in American Theater Group’s (ATG) upcoming production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Our Town by Thornton Wilder.

Lipman is cast as Sam Craig, who is one of the townsfolk in the play.

Lipman of Stirling is a trained Montessori elementary educator whose drama program incorporates theater and creative movement into the Montessori academic curriculum for ages 3-12.

She also directs annual musical theater productions for the school. She studied theater at Northwestern University with a focus on educational theater and when she’s not teaching, she loves being on stage.

Recent theatrical roles include Jack’s Mom in Into the Woods, Mrs. Gloop in Willy Wonka, and Mrs. Curtin in A Man of No Importance.

The production will be led by Director Merete Muenter, whose numerous credits include serving as Associate Director of the 2022 Off Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof directed by Joel Grey and ATG’s 2019 production of Bridges of Madison County.

Beloved by many, Our Town is set in the fictional town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, and explores the universal themes of life, love, community and mortality. Since it was first performed in 1938, it has been widely considered one of the best American dramas of all time, combining humor, tenderness and powerful storytelling.

Performance dates are Oct. 23 to Nov. 2 at the DMK Theater at the new Union Arts Center in Union, and Nov. 6 to 9 at the Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge.
