Bernards Township Announces Free Rabies Clinic For Dogs And Cats

The Bernards Twp. Health Department announced a free rabies clinic for cats and dogs

BASKING RIDGE, NJ—The Bernards Township Health Department announced a free rabies clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the township's Public Works Garage on South Maple Avenue. The rabies vaccination is required to receive a license for your pet, the township said.

"All Bernards Township dogs and cats must be licensed," the statement said. "All current dog and cat licenses expire on January 31st of each year. The licensing of animals is an important aspect of rabies and animal control."

In order for a license to be issued, the owner must present proof that a licensed veterinarian has vaccinated the pet against rabies and that the duration of immunity from that vaccination extends through at least 10 months of the twelve-month licensing period.

An exemption to the rabies inoculation requirement will be granted if the owner presents written certification from a licensed veterinarian that the dog or cat cannot be vaccinated due to a medical condition or course of therapy.

The rabies expiration date for Bernards Township pets can be found on the pet's current license. To download the license application or for more information, click here.
