The night is dedicated to celebrating the township's police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel for their service.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Committee proudly hosted its 2025 First Responders Appreciation Night on Oct. 23, at the Liberty Corner Firehouse — an evening dedicated to celebrating and thanking the township’s police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel for their service and sacrifice.
The event drew a crowd of more than 100 attendees, including First Responders from the Basking Ridge Fire Company No. 1 and EMS, the Bernards Township Police Department, and the Liberty Corner Fire Company. Distinguished guests such as Congressman Tom Kean, Jr., Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz, and Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis joined Deputy Mayor Andrew McNally, Committeeman David Tancredi, and community members in honoring Bernards Township’s local heroes.
Mayor Janice Fields reflected on the significance of the night, calling it "a genuine honor and privilege" to host such a meaningful tradition.

"This evening was a beautiful reminder of what makes Bernards Township so special — our sense of community, gratitude, and respect for those who serve," said Fields. "With over 100 First Responders in attendance, the energy in the room was filled with appreciation and pride. It was truly an evening to remember."
The Mayor noted that the First Responders Appreciation Night began on Nov. 10, 2016, with the goal of honoring those who protect and serve the township. Since then, the event has been held every three years, growing in both attendance and community support.

Fields expressed heartfelt gratitude to the First Responders Appreciation Committee, led by Co-Chairs Dolores Cirra and Jim Foti, along with Sue Morrissey and Evelyn Cucchiara.
"This committee truly sets the gold standard," Fields said. "Their dedication, creativity, and tireless effort turned an idea into a meaningful celebration that reflects their deep love for our community and our First Responders. Every detail — from the planning to the personal touches — made the night shine with warmth and gratitude."
The Mayor also recognized the event’s sponsors and donors, whose generosity made the evening possible.
"Your support is a true reflection of how deeply our community values our First Responders," she added. "You’ve helped make this tradition something we can all be proud of."
Throughout the evening, Bernards Township’s First Responders were recognized for their courage, compassion, and unwavering service. Mayor Fields emphasized the selflessness that defines their work:
"To be a First Responder is not just a job — it’s a way of life," she said. "Our police officers, firefighters, and EMTs embody courage, humility, and a steadfast commitment to others. Because of their service, Bernards Township remains one of the safest and most caring communities to call home."
The Mayor concluded her remarks with a message of continued gratitude:
"On behalf of a grateful township, please know that you have our enduring appreciation and unwavering support for all that you do," said Fields. "May we all continue to thank, support, and stand beside our First Responders each and every day."
