Community Mourns Death Of 66-Year-Old Former Bernards Twp. Committeewoman
Kathleen "Kate" Grochala served as a member of the Bernards Township Republicans for 27 years and 1 term on the Bernards Township Committee.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Basking Ridge community is mourning the loss of former Committeewoman Kathleen "Kate" Grochala, who died on Sept. 13 at the age of 66.
"Kate was a dedicated public servant whose kindness, generosity, and commitment to the community were evident in all that she did," according to a statement from Mayor Janice Fields and Township Committee. "She served the residents of Bernards Township with honor, integrity, and grace, leaving a lasting impact through her years of service."
Grochala was a member of the Bernards Township Republicans for 27 years and served one term on the Bernards Township Committee.

Grochala was elected in November 2020 and resigned from the Township Committee in April 2023 citing "personal reasons."
"Her contributions touched the lives of many, and her absence will be profoundly felt. We extend out heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time," continued the Township.

Along with being involved in Republican politics, Grochala also had a passion for raising her two daughters.
She went to Seton Hall Law School late in life while raising two teenage daughters. After law school, she worked at the Coughlin Duffy law firm in Morristown and then became the Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Denise Coyle in the NJ Legislature.
"Kate was very well known around town for her kind and generous spirit. She was passionate about helping others in her community, especially the local Police Department, Veterans and fellow moms," according to her obituary with Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home. "She also enjoyed supporting local businesses and formed lasting relationships with many of the local shop owners. Kate will be remembered for her charisma and altruism."
She was predeceased by her father, Thomas.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Grochala, of 41 years, her mother, Ellen, her husband, Richard Grochala, two daughters and two sons-in-law, Kelly Coveney and Joseph Coveney, and Molly Grochala and Jasim Mobaidin, her sister, Maureen Salitsky, her brother, Thomas Farrell, Jr., and two grandchildren, Camille (“Millie”) Coveney and Rafael (“Rafi”) Mobaidin.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A repast will be held at the Washington House in Basking Ridge from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
